We had the opportunity to speak with Josh Planos, a representative from the Better Business Bureau, who shared valuable insights on safeguarding your business's social media accounts in the event of a compromise.

Planos highlighted the following important steps to take when facing a social media hack:

  • Run a malware scan: Conduct a thorough scan of your computer systems to identify and eliminate any malicious software that may have contributed to the breach.
  • Report the hack and alert your customers: Notify the social media platform about the security breach as soon as possible. Additionally, inform your customers or followers about the incident, providing them with accurate information to ensure transparency and maintain their trust.
  • Change your passwords immediately: Take immediate action to change the passwords for all your social media accounts. Ensure that the new passwords are strong and unique, incorporating a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.

By following these steps, businesses can proactively respond to a compromised social media account and mitigate potential damage.
