HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Much of the area will experience plenty of sunshine today. There is a bit of a haze as there is some smoke in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Any fog left this morning should burn off fairly quickly. It’ll be a warm day as temperatures rise into the mid to upper 70s and lower 80s. Winds shouldn’t be terribly strong, mostly 5 to 15 mph. They’ll be more northeasterly over eastern areas and southeasterly over western areas. Western areas will see showers and thunderstorms move in from Eastern Colorado and the Panhandle by later in the afternoon. Severe storms will be possible with the strongest storms. Large hail and severe wind gusts will be the main threat. There is a very low-end threat of an isolated tornado over northwestern areas. As these storms push eastward into the evening, the will become more spotty in nature, so chances will be lower the farther east that you go. They should also weaken further into the night. Low temperatures tonight will dip back into the low to mid 50s.

Some scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be a part of the forecast for Wednesday. Overall, this is a better chance of rain for the area and the extra clouds will also keep temperatures a bit cooler. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s for most. Once again, there is a chance of severe weather with large hail and severe wind gusts being the main threats. The best chance for this will be for roughly the southeastern half of the area. Some showers and isolated thunderstorms could linger into Wednesday night, but much of it will be out of the area by around midnight. A few clouds will still be around into Thursday morning.

While Thursday still has some lingering clouds and perhaps a little rain in the east, I expect temperatures to start to warm back up. High temperatures will be back up into the mid to upper 70s. Friday brings more sunshine and a bigger warm-up. Highs will be up into the 80s. Lower confidence in the forecast comes for the weekend and some of it will depend on the timing of a cold front. On Saturday, as the cold front approaches from the northwest, we could see more 70s in the northwest and 80s in the southeast. This could also bring a chance of thunderstorms, but that is not a certainty. Sunday trends a little cooler with highs in the 70s and lower 80s. There will still be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Better chances may come Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures also look to stay a bit closer to average. A lot of highs in the 70s are expected, but some 60s will also be possible.
