HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Snow will develop over Northern Nebraska tonight into Saturday. The heaviest will be in counties adjacent to the South Dakota border, with diminishing impacts from the snow the farther south you go. In the Local 4 area, the best chance for accumulating snow will be in the Ord, Greeley and Albion to Burwell areas with 1-3 inches possible. The Tri-Cities and counties adjacent to the I-80 corridor could see a mix of precipitation in the form of some drizzle or sprinkles, with a few flurries or freezing drizzle closer to Saturday morning.

The other side of story is going to be the an arctic cold front what will sweep across the state on Saturday. The “warmest’ temperatures for the day will come in the early morning, as the thermometer will plummet the rest of the day. Blustery conditions are expected with the falling temperatures as northwest winds gust into the 30 to 35 mph range. There will be chances for flurries or light snow Saturday evening as a second wave of snow tracks from southwest Nebraska eastward. Saturday evening a Wind Chill Advisory will go into effect for central and southwest areas. “Feels like temperatures into Sunday will drop between 20 to 25 below zero, promoting a frostbite threat.

The bitter cold will continue into Monday but the latest trends are allowing for some moderation to the cold next week, so it doesn’t appear the frigid conditions will last that long.
