Omaha Senator Machaela Cavanaugh, known for her filibuster during this year's legislative session, will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Hastings Pride festival in central Nebraska.

"LET THEM GROW ACT" PASSES AFTER PROTESTERS REMOVED FROM THE CHAMBER

Senator Cavanaugh rose to prominence earlier this year when she led a filibuster in protest against the Let Them Grow Act. This act sought to impose restrictions on gender-affirming care for individuals under 19 years old in Nebraska.

Her effort was ultimately unsuccessful as lawmakers proceeded to pass the measure along with a 12-week abortion ban.

Hastings Pride officials expressed their enthusiasm for having Senator Cavanaugh as the featured speaker, describing her as a powerful advocate for queer rights.

The festival is scheduled to take place Saturday at Highland Park from 2 pm to 6 pm Saturday afternoon. Senator Cavanaugh is scheduled to deliver her speech around 4:40 pm.
