DONIPHAN, Neb. (KSNB) - Doniphan-Trumbull voters Tuesday rejected two ballot measures that would have expanded and modernized the district’s facilities.

The first measure called for spending no more than $22.8 million on improvements and additions to the PreK–12 building. The second measure would have funded a new competition gym and locker rooms at a maximum cost of $9.3 million.

The first measure failed by 531 to 375. The second failed by 610 to 296.

In a press release, Doniphan-Trumbull Superintendent Jeremy Braden said, “While the bond measure did not receive enough community support at this time, we understand and respect the voice of our community and ultimately this is tremendous feedback for our administration and board of education regarding the next steps.”

“The board and administration appreciate all the feedback and the many stakeholders who took the time to learn about the school’s current state. Our facility challenges won’t go away, and we will work to identify a solution that is efficient, cost-effective, and meets the needs of our students, staff, and community. In the meantime, we will continue to provide a safe and positive learning environment for students at D-T.”

Braden said district’s board and administration encourage open discussion from community members, employees, and parents.
