Adams Central High School thanks area businesses with sweet treats
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Culinary students at Adams Central High School collaborated with the Central Community College Culinary Arts program to thank area businesses for their support of the school.
Adams Central students worked in CCC’s kitchen to prepare, bake and sort the treats, before decorating them onto trays and delivering them.
Family and Consumer Science teacher, Amber Schmidt, said the students learn a lot of life skills, while taking the class and having this experience.
“They’re learning, for one, collaborating and being able to talk and work with people they don’t know because that’s an important life skill that they need to learn,” Schmidt said. “They’re also learning teamwork and honing in on their baking skills and measuring skills, so there’s a bunch of different information that they learn just by a small collaboration like this.”
Central Community College Kitchen and Catering Manager, Courtney Rempe, said the collaboration also brings big opportunities for CCC Culinary Arts students, who are looking to take their skills to the next level.
”Any time we get the opportunity to get high schools in, it’s so important,” Rempe said. “I think from the time I was a student in high school getting to come into this kitchen and getting to see that inspiration for the future. It’s so important to have them feel at right at home when they come here from day one and not be nervous and scared when they get here.”
Rempe also said both the high school and CCC students also get networking opportunities, while working together, which helps them move their careers forward.
”Networking is so important for our students, who come in here, not only do they get to network with high schools, but then eventually to network with the industry and we’ve got them on the advisory board,” Rempe said. “So here, the high school students get in the front door and say, ‘Hey, I’ve been in that kitchen before’ and it’s so important.”
The collaboration was brought together by the Adams Central Schools Foundation in order to give students a hands-on learning experience.
The trays were made for 34 local business sponsors of the Adams Central Schools Foundation and delivered Tuesday morning.
