According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, anxiety is a disorder affecting nearly 1 in 3 Nebraskans.

Dr. Krista Fritson, UNK Professor and Licensed Clinical Psychologist, spoke with NTV today to talk about anxiety and how it can affect youth differently from adults.

Fritson explains anxiety is an underlying fear - but we may not know the cause of those fears and can result in excessive worrying.

She says it can stem from situational entities, past experiences, sleep disruption and more.

Fritson said overall they are seeing an increase in youth anxiety and a lot of it could be from cell phone and social media use.

If anyone is experiencing anxiety, they may become more irritable, start acting out, show shifts in behavior, become depressed, or start isolating themselves.
