According to the Buffalo County Jail, UNK's wide receiver Xavier J. Delk was arrested yesterday, June 4 after having an active warrant for first-degree assault.

Those records state the charge stems from an incident on May 14, where Delk is suspected of causing serious bodily injury to another person.

Details regarding the incident remain undisclosed as the supporting affidavit for the arrest warrant has been sealed, however, according to the arrest warrant, the assault occurred during the same time frame as a series of shootings and one stabbing that happened in Kearney, where a group of UNK Football players were present.

Court records show Delk is also connected to an incident on the same day where, Marvin Zuniga, 19, assaulted him "with a dangerous instrument".

Zuniga is charged in Buffalo County Court with one count of second-degree assault.

When contacted by NTV News, Buffalo County Attorney Shaun Eatherton declined to provide further information on the case.

The University of Nebraska Kearney (UNK) released a statement regarding the arrest warrant for Delk saying:

We are aware of a pending charge against one of our student athletes related to an off-campus incident May 14. Xavier Delk has been suspended from all football team activities pending the outcome of the charge. The university continues to cooperate with law enforcement and respect the legal and privacy constraints associated with the case.

UNK has declined an on-camera statement regarding the ongoing situation. It is currently unknown if the series of violent acts are connected.

Delk is currently being held at Buffalo County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000 with a court date set for July 5.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
