A couple more chances for rain before mostly dry weather returns

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - There are scattered showers and thunderstorms across parts of Central Nebraska and North Central Kansas. Those areas will have a decent chance of rain during the morning. Then will shift eastward later today, bringing Eastern Nebraska a better chance than this morning. More showers and thunderstorms will develop over Southwest Nebraska this afternoon and that area would have the best chance for some isolated severe weather. Large hail around an inch in diameter and wind gusts up around 60 mph will be possible. Chances of rain and thunderstorms will get lower through the evening, but don’t completely go away. Highs today will reach the mid 70s to mid 80s, but rain will obviously cool things down a bit. It will be a little breezy with south southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and low to mid 60s.

Saturday will be best chance of rain that we’ll see for awhile. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will increase as the day goes on with a fairly widespread chance in the afternoon. The severe weather threat remains low, but isn’t zero. Temperatures for highs will range from the lower 70s west to the upper 80s east. Showers and thunderstorms will diminish fairly quickly Saturday evening and overnight. Most will be dry after midnight. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s and lower 60s.

The chance for rain and thunderstorms will get much lower next week as better chances shift to the southwest. Warmer temperatures from the northeast will shift back toward our area. There will be some slight chances for rain Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but again, these chances don’t look to promising. Warmer temperatures will return with most getting back into the 80s. Eastern Nebraska may have a few days closer to 90°
