HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Several fundraising efforts for fallen Officer Christopher Marcello have raised over $32,000 over the past few months.

Through various events such as the Valentine Telegram, Toss for a Cause Cornhole Tournament, Serve for a Cause Volleyball Tournament, a Sonic Drive-In ‘Dine Out to Help Out event, memorial t-shirt sales and concession stand efforts at local sporting events, organizers from the Hall County Crime Stoppers soared past their $25,000 fundraising goals.

According to organizers, the funds will be able to cover all travel and hotel expenses for officers, the Marcello family for an upcoming Washington, D.C. Memorial Trip and assist with extended family expenses.

“This trip to honor officer Marcello’s legacy along with the other fallen police officers nationally goes to show the tremendous community support enjoyed by the Grand Island Police Department,” Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney said. “Going to our nation’s capital allows closure for Christopher Marcello’s untimely passing – not only for his family, but also the men and women he served with at GIPD.”

Any remaining funds will be dedicated to honoring Officer Christopher Marcello’s legacy in the near future.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed and supported us during this difficult time,” said Taylor Lemburg, a Hall County Crime Stopper Board Member. “As we wrap up our fundraising efforts, we can’t thank you all enough for your continued support.”
