The Grand Island Public Library Foundation is participating in Giving Tuesday 2023.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 28 — the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. The global event captures the power of social media and collaboration to support local and national nonprofits, making a significant impact on communities worldwide and here at home.
Why Giving Tuesday matters
Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to giving back. The day follows the rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, serving as a reminder of the importance of charitable giving during the holiday season.
For the Grand Island Public Library Foundation, Giving Tuesday is a prime opportunity to rally support for our mission of enhancing and supporting the programs and services of the Grand Island Public Library.
The foundation’s vision
The Grand Island Public Library Foundation is committed to promoting literacy, education and community engagement through the Grand Island Public Library’s programs and services.
Our vision is to support a thriving library which serves as a community hub for knowledge, culture and innovation. With a focus on expanding services, offering educational programs, and providing access to a wide range of resources. In 2023 the foundation helped provide funding for programs which reached 5,000 patrons. In 2024 we plan to help the library reach more than 6,000 patrons with their special programs and events.
How you can get involved
The foundation encourages local residents and supporters to get involved on Giving Tuesday 2023. There are various ways to participate:
1. Donations. Make a one-time or recurring donation to support the foundation’s initiatives. Your donation will help support the free programs and activities the library offers to their patrons each year. The Grand Island Public Library Foundation provides annual funding directly to the library. By participating in Giving Tuesday, the Grand Island Public Library Foundation hopes to raise funds which will help enhance and expand library programs and resources.
You can donate online at https://giplf.org/online-donation-form/ or you can drop off a donation at the library or mail it to: Grand Island Public Library Foundation, P.O. Box 1364, Grand Island, NE 68802 Attn: Giving Tuesday.
2. Volunteer. Contribute your time and skills to help with library programs and events.
Our volunteers are an essential part of our successful library! Without their dedication, the library would not be able to provide all the wonderful services and programs.
Volunteers help with a variety of duties, from shelving books, cleaning and organizing materials, and assisting with programs and outreach events. They also provide essential support to staff. Volunteers help us provide excellent customer service to every visitor who walks through our doors at our Welcome Desk.
We appreciate each volunteer! Complete a volunteer application here:
3. Spread the word. Share the Foundation’s mission and the Giving Tuesday campaign on your social media to raise awareness. Your ability to share about Giving Tuesday on your own social media by sharing the posts you see is very helpful because it gives our posts a boost in the algorithm.
On Giving Tuesday 2023, join the Grand Island Public Library Foundation in making a positive impact on the community in a way that works best for you. Your support will help the library continue to be a valuable resource for education, culture, and knowledge.
Be sure to check with your other favorite local nonprofit organizations to see if they are also participating in Giving Tuesday. Your support of our local nonprofit organizations makes our community a better place to live! Every dollar counts and can make an impact.
