Investigation into deadly plane crash underway

Reports of a plane crash near mile marker 283 of Interstate 80 have been confirmed by the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office. The incident, involving a single-engine airplane, occurred 12 miles east of Kearney, Neb. and according to officials, resulted in a single fatality.

The initial report was received by the sheriff's office at approximately 9:12 am, alerting them to the crash south of Interstate 80 near the east end of Bassway Strip State Wildlife Management Area. First responders were able to locate the crash site approximately 100 yards in a field.

According to a statement issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crash involved a single-engine Vans RV7 aircraft. Specific details regarding the incident are still unknown.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash resulted in the fatality of the lone pilot of the plane. The identity of the pilot has not been disclosed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, and multiple agencies, including the Kearney Police Department, NE Game & Parks Commission, Nebraska State Patrol, Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department, Buffalo County Attorney's Office, FAA, and NTSB, are providing assistance.
