‘The Price is Right’ themed event coming to Hastings Auditorium
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department will host a ‘Price is Right’ themed event on Jan. 30 at the Hastings City Auditorium.
The department will host two versions of the event:
- The Price Is Right Senior Edition for ages 55 and older will be from 1 to 3 p.m.
- The Price Is Right Night Out Edition is for ages 21 and older and will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The big change between the show and the department’s two events is the amount of potential contestants.
On the show, four contestants begin on Bidder’s Row and then one person is replaced each round as another is called up to the stage.
In the department’s version, four new contestants are brought to Bidder’s Row each round, and two of the four will appear in a stage game. Out of the 100 spots at each event, 32 people will have the opportunity to participate in the Bidder’s Row portion of the event.
Parks and Rec Superintendent, Steve Farrens said they wanted to bring the event to Hastings to help engage their older community members.
”It started with us trying to come up with additional senior programming, an improvement in our programming,” Farrens said. “We have a number of different programming already taking place in this auditorium, but we want to increase senior programming in this community, we have a demographic for it.”
Farrens also said the event will bring a unique opportunity to bring something fun to the community.
”We want to be able to, from the Parks and Rec standpoint, provide as much as we can, while not doing the same thing every year,” Farrens said. “The Price is Right’ has not been done before. I think once they get a taste, this is something that every year, we can add to little bit, something we can look forward to like our Seniorfest event.”
He also said he’s enjoyed working with the people within the department in order to put this unique event together.
”I think that this program is something that you’re not going to find anywhere else in the Tri-Cities,” Farrens said. “Being able to work with the parks department on building some of those games and being able to work with the streets department on building some of the signage for it, it’s been a good team effort. I think the community will find that it’s new, it’s original, it’s unique, so they’re going to come.”
For this first year, the department incorporated some of the most recognizable components to capture the essence of the gameshow. Those well-known aspects include a massive Plinko board and a custom 36-inch “Big Wheel” for contestants to spin.
Several games from the show have been planned as well.
The events provide an opportunity to highlight local businesses.
The Adams County Visitors Bureau is the title sponsor for both events. As part of the sponsorship, the ACVB has provided funds to purchase prizes from local businesses.
Additionally, the department has procured prizes and sponsorships from businesses such as Nelson Furniture, Pastime Lanes, Coach’s Corner, and Allo.
Prize donations and sponsorships are still needed and will be accepted until Jan. 17.
Admission is $10 and registration can be done at the Hastings Parks and Recreation website.
