LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Ahead of Thanksgiving on Tuesday, the Husker football team made its annual visit to Lincoln hospitals, stopping by CHI St. Elizabeth and Bryan Health’s East Campus.

Players spent time with patients in various units, including medical oncology, cardiac care and the newborn intensive care unit, where they met some little Huskers.

One couple staying at Bryan East with their newborn twins said one of the babies is named for a former Husker player.

Frankie Reinwald, the twins’ mother, said that her grandfather played for the Nebraska football team and was “obsessed” with Husker football. She said getting to meet the current team while staying at the hospital was “a pretty cool coincidence.”

Tobin Reinwald, the twins’ father, added that he hopes his children will become athletes one day.

“Having a few of the players come out and meet the new guys here was a pretty special moment,” he said.

Players also took pictures and gave out autographs as they made their way through the hospitals.

Roman Mangini, a sophomore wide receiver, said the night is all about connecting with the fans, who have consistently sold out Memorial Stadium more than 400 times in a row.

“Any time we can give back and just pay that forward, we’re so happy to do that,” he said. “Getting to put a smile on people’s face during the holiday season is just amazing.”
