The storms this morning hit some areas of the state especially hard, leaving destruction behind.

Nicole Steward spoke with homeowners who are left picking up the pieces today and they're not alone - people are already stepping in to help those who took a hit this morning.

One homeowner, who slept through the storms, was met with a frightening scene when she woke.

"I didn't know whether to cry or what, I kept thinking this is happened to us, you know last night we went to bed ok and then this morning we get up and this is what happened."

Vicki Rodriguez says she was sound asleep when storms passed through her neighborhood sending trees, smashing through the roof of her garage.

She's not the only one who took a hit, a few of her neighbors are cleaning up as well.

"There are three or four more places that there's damage."

However, the damage won't be around for long, neighbors sprung into action.

Rodriguez says she is so thankful for the help and thankful to be alive.

"It just happened, all I see is that God protected us from being hurt and for that, we're happy about."

The damage in Shelton was from strong winds ripping through the area.
