For those of you who know me, you know I am a huge fan of baseball, that’s a given.
What you may not know is that I am a huge fan of the show “Seinfeld.” It’s a tad more than fandom though. Not enough to be obsessed, and not enough to issue a restraining order or anything, but I really like the show.
I like it because in many ways it is like real life. How many times have you received a weird look from someone for no reason, or had something happen to you that made you think, oh, it’s a “Seinfeld” moment?
I never got into the show much when it was first on, only in the latter years. I am not sure why, but when the show started, I was in high school and preoccupied with other things probably. When the show ended, I was in college and same goes, although I did watch it a few times then.
My friend Beau got me into “Seinfeld.” I remember hearing him laughing from across the street when I was outside talking to our friend.

On the weekends, when I am not working, I have a ritual for lunch. I make my lunch and watch “Seinfeld” from my recliner. Usually two episodes. On DVD, that’s how I roll, baby. (No George, I am not stealing your babies).
Sure, there are some I like better than others, that’s typical of any show. The finale, the last episode, oh don’t get me started. Not a favorite.
What about the characters? I think there is some of each of the four main characters in each of us.
Let’s start with Kramer. No I don’t borrow things from my neighbor, but I am an idea man, and silly, and a tad clumsy sometimes, also. Sometimes I say what is on my mind when maybe it wasn’t the right time.
I have some George in me. Josh is getting upset. Sometimes when I deal with technology and it goes awry then I think of George. He gets upset easier than I do.
Jerry is probably the one I am closer to. I always have questions about things. Normal things, everyday things, and sometimes things that don’t even pertain to my life. I can make jokes about said things and laugh about it.
I have a harder time relating to Elaine, maybe because she is a woman. I guess we both have only male friends so that’s something.
My “Seinfeld” fascination also includes many “Seinfeld” T-shirts, Funko Pops, Lego, and even several board games related to the show. I am undefeated at the “Seinfeld” Scene It game. Sad, I know, but I am good at it.
Yes, the “Seinfeld” characters are superficial and sometimes not very caring or nice, but it’s a show, and that’s why it’s funny.
Even though I have seen every episode over and over to the point where a couple of my DVDs are wearing down (true story) I still enjoy the silliness, and sometimes socially unacceptable humor of the show.
My kids will even say, “Hello, Newman,” sometimes.
I don’t usually let them watch the show but there are parts that are OK.
Now you know about me and my favorite show and how much I enjoy the show. Yes, I did a podcast episode about it, if you are wondering. All that’s left to say is, giddy up!
